Wohnen in der Vision

His standards for good architecture are high: «I want to give a newly built house a soul that can be noticed immediately when you move in,» explains Alfredo Häberli. With his exhibition concepts, architectural projects and design drafts, he is one of the most demanded designers worldwide. His design relies on lightness and charm, while always being precise. Observation is the best form of thinking, that is his design philosophy. This attentive observation also benefited the Zurich designer's latest project: a family friend had asked him to design a house for them. It was immediately evident to Häberli that this should be built by the prefabricated house manufacturer Baufritz. Four years ago, he had already realised the concept house Haussicht as a vision together with the German company, which specialises in the production of eco-system houses. A sensational timber construction that focused on openness, flexibility and sustainability. With the Waldsicht house in Köniz, the idea became a true prototype. The building combines modern aesthetics and building biology with a location close to nature, as the name already suggests. Right on the edge of the forest, on a narrow and steep plot of land. «I understood the picturesque forest not only as a green backdrop, but as part of the architecture,» explains Häberli.
